Getting to and from Pittsburgh International Airport

Pittsburgh International Airport sits about 17 miles west of downtown Pittsburgh at Exit 53 of Interstate 376. The 28X Airport Flyer bus, permitted taxis, ride share, rental cars and regional coaches all link the Landside Terminal with the city — but note: Pittsburgh’s light rail does not serve the airport.

By bus

Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s 28X Airport Flyer runs seven days a week between the airport, Robinson Towne Center, downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland, roughly every 30 minutes from door 9. The fare is $2.75 with three hours of unlimited transfers; a Day Pass is $7. Pay exact change on board (cards are not accepted on board), buy at the ticket machine near door 8 with ConnectCard, or use the Transit or Ready2Ride mobile apps. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles operate throughout.

By taxi and ride share

Taxis queue at the Ground Level rank outside baggage claim with permitted operators; Uber and Lyft pick up at door 7 on the Ground Level — request your ride after collecting bags and follow the door numbers.

By car

One terminal roadway leads to the airport; you exit at Exit 53 of I-376. The Pennsylvania Turnpike lies 15 miles away and I-79 within 10 miles. The Terminal Garage connects to the terminal by a 3–5 minute covered walk; older lots are reached by shuttle.

Things to know

  • No airport rail — plans for a rail link have never opened; the 28X bus is the public-transit connection.
  • ACCESS paratransit — advance-reservation rides for eligible travellers with disabilities (book at least two weeks ahead; 412-562-5353).
  • Hotel courtesy shuttles and regional coaches depart from the Ground Level commercial kerb; the Hyatt Regency on airport property runs its own shuttle to the terminal.

Check PRT schedules and live traffic before you travel, and allow extra time in winter weather — snow events are the region’s commonest cause of delay.
