Connecting Flights at Pittsburgh Airport
Pittsburgh International Airport keeps transfers simple: all gates sit in one X-shaped airside building, and the Skybridge delivers every connecting passenger into the same centre core. There is no train and no inter-terminal ride — you walk.
Key facts
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Transfer type | All concourses (A, B, C, D) connect airside on foot through the centre core |
| From the Landside Terminal | Security, then the Skybridge and tunnel — a single walk |
| Walk distance | The X layout was designed so the farthest pair of gates is about a 15-minute walk |
| International connections | Arrive at Concourse C, then follow the signs through passport control, baggage re-check and screening for your onward gate |
How transfers work
- Deplane and follow signs for Connections or Centre Core — everything airside is on one signed walkway system.
- Domestic-to-domestic transfers stay behind the same screening point; no second security pass is needed.
- International arrivals deplane at Concourse C; after the formalities you recheck bags if required and re-screen before your next gate.
- Flight information screens in the centre core show every gate assignment — check yours before heading down an arm.
Time to allow
- Same concourse — gates within one arm are walkable; allow 15–20 minutes to be safe.
- Concourse to concourse — the centre-core walk links all four arms; allow 30 minutes end to end.
- International arrival with a connection — passport control, bag re-check and screening take the longest; confirm your airline’s minimum connection time when booking.
If a connection is at risk
- Ask the crew before landing — ground staff can advise on the fastest route to your gate.
- Stay airside whenever your bags are tagged through to the final destination.
- Pittsburgh handles some of the East Coast’s heaviest weather diversions — in storms, screens and airline apps are the source of truth.
Facilities while you wait
The centre core between the concourses holds the main dining and retail cluster and charging seating; the PIT Stage performance space runs around the clock, and outdoor terraces open to ticketed passengers after security. Lounges are listed on the lounges page, and free Wi-Fi (“PIT Free WiFi”) works throughout the airport.
There is no train at Pittsburgh — but the airside building is one connected structure, so allow walking time rather than platform time when you plan a connection.
