Departures at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT)

Your journey through Pittsburgh International Airport starts in the Landside Terminal: drop-off on the upper roadway, check-in on the departures level, screening at the security checkpoints, then the Skybridge to every gate.

Aircraft prepared for departure at Pittsburgh International Airport.

Before you leave home

  • The airport recommends arriving 2 hours before domestic and 3 hours before international departures.
  • Check live checkpoint wait times (Standard, TSA PreCheck and CLEAR) on the airport’s Current Wait Times page.
  • Bring REAL ID-compliant identification; TSA verifies ID at the checkpoint, and PIT pioneered Credential Authentication Technology lanes.
  • Download your airline’s app for boarding passes and delay alerts — winter storms across the region are the main cause of disruption.

Check-in and security

  • Departures level counters — airline ticketing and bag drop for every carrier; American Airlines also offers curbside check-in at the kerb.
  • By garage — the Terminal Garage connects by covered walkway in 3–5 minutes.
  • Security checkpoints — screening sits on the departures level of the Landside Terminal; after screening, follow signs to the Skybridge.

After security

  • Cross the Skybridge and tunnel — a single walk (no train) to the airside centre core.
  • Dining, retail, the PIT Stage and terraces cluster at the centre core; concourses A–D fan out from it.
  • Confirm your gate on the screens in the centre core — assignments can change until departure.

Winter storms and heavy weather diversions can delay flights across the region — build in buffer time, and follow your airline’s messages for rebooking options.
